Isharat al-I'jaz | Verse 29 | 261
(251-261)

"All (kull)" is general and [from the point of view of divine knowledge] there is nothing outside it [for Allâh knows everything without exception]. Thus, the rule "all general rules have exceptions" has an exception. Otherwise the rule would be self-contradictory like an irrational root [not of mathematics but] of speech.

The word "thing (shay')" embraces wilier and willed, and such things other than these as the impossible.

"Knowing ('alîm):" that is, the [divine] Essence of which knowledge is an inherent necessary [attribute].
